Lassen Falls to Fresno in Tough Three-Set Loss

The Lassen College women’s volleyball team ran into a red-hot Fresno squad on September 5 in Stockton, dropping a tough three-set match (16–25, 13–25, 16–25). Despite moments of solid execution, the Cougars were unable to slow down Fresno’s high-powered offense, which hit an impressive .424 as a team.

Mackenzee Sills once again led the Cougar attack with 8 kills and contributed 10 total points, hitting .167 on 18 swings. Olive Chandler added 4 kills, while Kennidi Smith and Vanessa Lott chipped in 3 apiece. Lucy Platz kept the offense moving with 16 assists and 2 service aces, while libero Pacey Harris provided steady back-row coverage with 6 digs and a service ace.

The Cougars struggled to find rhythm offensively, finishing with a .018 team hitting percentage and 18 attack errors. Fresno’s defense forced difficult swings, and their strong serving game kept Lassen out of system for much of the match. However, Lassen’s hustle never wavered, with 31 total digs and 7 different players contributing to the stat sheet.

Though the loss stings, the match offered valuable experience against a disciplined opponent. The Cougars will look to regroup and bounce back as they continue non-conference play and build toward a more consistent offensive rhythm.
