Cougars Battle but Come Up Short at Shasta
The Lassen College men’s basketball team put together a gritty road performance Wednesday night but fell just short against Shasta, 62-57, in Golden Valley Conference action. The Cougars trailed 32-28 at halftime and stayed within striking distance throughout the second half before coming up just five points shy.
Isaiah Garcia led Lassen with 14 points off the bench, knocking down 5-of-10 shots from the field, including two three-pointers, while adding six rebounds and a block. DeCarlo Browne recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and eight points, anchoring the Cougars on the glass. Isaiah Lassiter contributed eight points, including two three-pointers, and added six rebounds. Jailen Childress chipped in seven points and four assists, providing steady play off the bench.
Lassen shot 41.1% from the field and 41.2% from three-point range (7-of-17), but struggled at the free throw line, converting just 4-of-11 attempts. The Cougars also committed 17 turnovers, which proved costly in a tight contest. Shasta was led by Cheik Diop’s 17 points and 11 rebounds, and the Knights held a narrow 36-35 edge on the boards.
Despite the loss, Lassen showed resilience and competitiveness on the road, battling possession by possession in a physical conference matchup. The Cougars will look to build on the defensive effort and perimeter shooting as they continue Golden Valley Conference play.
