Cougars Rally in Second Half to Win Conference Opener Over Siskiyous, 62-51
The Lassen College men’s basketball team opened Golden Valley Conference play in strong fashion on January 7, using a dominant second half to defeat Siskiyous 62-51 at home. After trailing 28-22 at halftime, the Cougars flipped the game with a 40-point second half fueled by defensive pressure, timely shooting, and trips to the free throw line.
Sophomore guard DeCarlo Browne led the way with 19 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting performance, adding seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Isaiah Garcia provided a huge spark off the bench, matching Browne with 19 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Lassen’s ability to get to the line proved critical, as the Cougars converted 19-of-22 free throws (86.4%) compared to 13-of-18 for Siskiyous.
Defensively, Lassen turned up the intensity after halftime, forcing 23 turnovers and recording 14 steals. McKay Robert filled the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, four assists, and five steals, while Isaiah Lassiter added four steals of his own. Despite being outrebounded 36-22, the Cougars’ defensive pressure and second-half execution sealed the comeback victory, giving Lassen momentum to begin conference play with a 1-0 record.
