On Friday, February 10, the Lassen Beach Volleyball team faced off against Hartnell College. The match-up was the first-ever beach competition for Lassen Community College but did result in two losses. The first match played at 10:00 a.m., saw Cayton White and Taysha Ortega take down Hartnell’s #2 seed in straight sets 21-8, 21-16. We saw a tight set between our #4 seed, Josie Booth and Taylor Somerville but resulted in a loss 20 – 22 and 13-21.
The second match was played directly afterward at noon, and saw Hannah McLauchlin and Olivia Nord take down Hartnell’s #2 seed again in straight sets 21-18, 21-14. We saw a great matchup between our #3 seed Abigail Racca and Jasmin Churchill barely losing both sets 19-21, and 19-21. At our #5 seed Molly Zimmerman and Katelyn Sanchez pushed the match into three sets, the only of the day, but lost 21-15, 7-21 and 5-15.
“Overall, in our first day of competing in beach matches we saw everyone start to have success. Given the climate in Susanville, CA, we saw the team really adjust to the deep sand and wind factors that we don’t get to experience every day. I’m looking forward to seeing the continued growth of the group this spring,” said Coach Morris.
